Fee Accountant Emphasys Software is seeking a Fee Accountant to perform accounting and consulting work for our software clients. A CPA with Housing Authority and Elite Software experience is preferred but not required. The Fee Accountant provides accurate and timely hands-on accounting work for assigned Emphasys software clients consistent with their specific engagement plan. Work is performed in accordance with company standards and strict internal control policies and may be performed at the client site or remotely. The Fee Accountant must achieve expertise in the use of Emphasys Elite Software and assist clients in identifying areas for improvement in their internal business practices and workflows. The Fee Accountant must be or become proficient in the Department of Housing and Urban Development rules and regulations as related to Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, and other related programs both from a financial and operational perspective as well as have a proficiency in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IRS regulations in 1099, payroll and non-profit tax returns, GASB and the Single Audit Act. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs or reviews client prepared bank reconciliations Performs or reviews client prepared Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable reconciliations Prepares work papers and schedules to include but not limited to: fixed assets depreciation capital fund program revenue and expenses subsidy insurance prepaid expenses Prepares Journal Entries and supporting documentation Performs Net Assets/Equity roll-forward Performs posting subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger Prepares financial statements/reports for internal accounting and auditing and as required by laws, statutes or regulations Performs year-end: HUD Financial Data Schedule prep and submission; close-out of fiscal year within software system Researches/analyzes fluctuations between current financial results compared to prior year, month, and budgeted amounts Works with independent auditors to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements Recommends changes in accounting systems and procedures Budget, budget revisions and subsidy calculation preparation Reviews client transaction coding for accuracy and corrects as needed Document preparation, various HUD reports preparations and other accounting-related activities Assist with HUD and IRS compliance research Assist with other consulting services in areas of expertise Assist with requests for proposals for fee accounting, consulting and software questionnaires Education and Experience Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance Strong understanding of accounting theory CPA designation preferred Four or more years accounting experience in the assisted/affordable industry preferred Specialized Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, including GAAP and statutory accounting Highly detail oriented and organized in work Ability to meet assigned deadlines Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees Proficient in spreadsheet applications Excellent verbal and written communication skills Work Environment Travel required generally 25% of time can peak to up to 75% of time Option to work from home office This position reports to the Manager of Advanced Financial Solutions
